Puppy Classes

Our popular puppy classes follow The Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Puppy Foundation Scheme. All of our classes promote responsible dog ownership and use positive, kind, reward based training techniques. The cost of the Puppy Foundation Course is £70.00 per puppy, payable in advance.

The Puppy Foundation Course consists of 8 x one hour sessions, starting with the basics and developing these throughout the course.  During the course, we love to encourage good, controlled socialisation, giving your puppy confidence around others and assisting their handler to understand the puppy’s body language in different situations.

Whilst Basic Control is paramount, the club has a flexible approach to training, with no strict rules, as every dog and handler is individual.

Basic Exercises:

  • Sit
  • Lie down
  • Stand
  • Basic recall
  • Control of mouthing & play biting

We give instruction and advice on handling and examining your puppy’s condition, routine care with regard to flea & worm treatments, grooming, basic good health.  The Club promotes responsible dog ownership.

Once you’ve mastered the Basics, you will learn to build the commands into the following exercises:

  • On your bed
  • Sit & Stay
  • Lie down & Stay
  • Play & Control
  • Socialisation
  • Walking on the lead without pulling
  • Focusing Attention
  • Wait

We are happy for young children to sit and watch the class as we feel it is important for them to be part of the training process. For more information, see  class information.

Puppies are accepted for training as soon as they are fully vaccinated. Proof of vaccination is required before joining the course.

Kennel Club Puppy Packs are provided at the beginning of the course with Certficates and Rosettes awarded on successful completion of the Course.

The Puppy Classes are on Wednesday evenings.  Please contact us for Course Start dates and times.
